“Green” Lawn for a “Green” Home
UltimateFlora Zoysia Chosen for 2nd Year in a Row as
Environmentally Friendly Grass for New Southern Home Lawn

ORLANDO, FL (Wednesday, July 11, 2007): For the second year in a row, UltimateFlora Zoysia turfgrass was selected for the lawn at the New Southern Home showcase home project associated with the Southeast Builders Conference (SEBC) in Orlando. The environmentally friendly grass requires less water and less fertilizer than many common grass varieties. By using UltimateFlora Zoysia at the New Southern Home, the project achieves not only a beautiful, green lawn, but a “green” lawn in terms of its eco-friendly sustainability.

he New Southern Home, a project of the Southeast Builders Conference, was built by James M. Krantz Construction Corporation. Krantz's Ashley Van der Mark said one of the main goals in building the home is “to be as environmentally friendly, or 'green' as possible, utilizing the latest advances in water conservation and solar energy, thereby making it energy efficient as well. This will include low-maintenance landscaping.”

UltimateFlora Zoysia, a new environmentally friendly turfgrass from Environmental Turf Inc., helps to meet that goal as the grass requires significantly less water for irrigation than St. Augustinegrass.

“In fact,” said Stacie Zinn, President of Environmental Turf, “UltimateFlora Zoysia was developed by researchers at the University of Florida to replace St. Augustine lawns.”

UltimateFlora Zoysia is considered drought tolerant, a major issue right now in the rain-starved Southeast United States. The grass can survive on as little as 1/2-inch of water (from rain or irrigation) per week and has natural defense systems to withstand periods of drought.

In addition, UltimateFlora Zoysia is shade tolerant and resists the chinch bug insect. UltimateFloraZoysia is available through Environmental Turf and its network of licensed sod producers.

The grass installed as the lawn at the New Southern Home was grown nearby in Earleton, Florida, at the Best Florida Sod turf farm owned by University of Florida graduate Eilam Arad, who is a licensed producer of UltimateFlora Zoysia.

“We're very excited to be involved in such an innovative project as the New Southern Home,” Arad said. “It is astounding to me that for so long lawns in the Florida landscape have been dominated by the St. Augustine varieties, which are clearly inferior grasses. UltimateFlora Zoysia is superior in every single category from the way it looks to drought tolerance, to shade tolerance, and chinch bug resistance. It's the future of the landscape industry in Florida, and UltimateFlora Zoysia, which is an environmentally friendly grass, is a tremendous benefit to builders and their customers in Florida and the entire Southeastern United States.”

The New Southern Home program is backed by the Florida Home Builders Association and is vastly considered the premiere show home in the Southeast. Set to open in conjunction with the Southeast Building Conference from July 11 - 14th, the home, Van der Mark said, is billed as a “showcase home featuring the design, luxury and technology which will set the pace for the lifestyle of the South. The home will feature the latest and most innovative products available in the marketplace.”

The New Southern Home program began in 1998 to celebrate innovative and creative architecture, building and design. Various 'cutting-edge' national companies are joining forces to display the latest technology and 'must-have' products in the showcase home, Van der Mark said.

The New Southern Home is located at 3880 Anderson Road, Orlando. The home is open to attendees of the 29th Annual SEBC held at the Orange County Convention Center July 12 - 14, 2007. Some 15,000 delegates are expected to attend the convention and tour the home, located near the conference site. Shuttles to the home leave from the convention center on an hourly basis. Another 20,000 people are expected to tour the home once it opens to the general public beginning on Sunday, July 15th.
