“The Golf Doctor” Mike Calbot Welcomed In China
ESTERO, Florida (Friday, January 6, 2006): Estero-based Trick Shot Artist and Golf Instructor Mike Calbot recently returned from a two week working golf tour of the Peoples Republic of China.
Internationally known as “The Golf Doctor” and based at Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club in Estero, Calbot endorses SeaDwarf Seashore Paspalum turfgrass for use on golf courses and promoted the grass while in China.
Calbot was invited to China by the honorable Pang Gui-san, the President and Chairman of AutoMart, as part of the company’s grand opening celebration.
Calbot’s first stop was at the largest golf facility in the world, Mission Hills in Shenzhen. Founded in 1994, and located just 30 minutes from Hong Kong, Mission Hills is the World's No. 1 Golf Club as accredited by the Guinness Book of World Records, with 180 holes of golf stretched over 7,700 hectares, or 23,000 acres, employing 3,000 caddies. Mike performed his world famous golf trick shot and clinic routine then played with Charles W.B. Cheung, the Chief Executive officer of Mission Hills Golf Club and his invited guests.
The next stop was Xi’an to the Ya’Jian International Golf Club. Situated below the famous Zhongan peek, Xi'an Yajian International Golf Club is a beautiful holiday resort at the southwestern part of Xi'an, a suburb with the undulating Zhongnan Mountains to the south and the noted Buddhist holy land "Cao Tang Temple" to the north. This area is also home to the famous “Terra-Cotta Warriors.”
Calbot performed his trick-shot exhibition and gave a putting and short game clinic for the invited guests and club members.
The next stop was the Capital City Beijing where Calbot stayed at the Century Golden Resources Hotel very near to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the Great Hall of The People where the Automart Grand Opening Ceremony was held. Calbot gave several performances in Beijing at area golf clubs for AutoMart VIP’s and guests.
Calbot then traveled to Shanghai, which Calbot had visited earlier this year when he performed at the BMW Asian Open. He then continued on to Hong Kong where Calbot was invited to play by prominent Chinese businessman, Mr. K.C. Kwan, in a private charity event at The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau, the only public golf course in Hong Kong. Calbot believes that this 36 hole facility is one of the best he has seen. The courses are located on an island, about a 15 minute boat ride from the city.
Calbot’s more than 35 years of teaching experience as a swing analyst, instructor and world renowned professional golf trick shot artist has made him one of the most sought-after professionals in golf today. Calbot frequently works with PGA, LPGA, Senior and European tour players. He has personally trained more than 25 men and women who are now class "A” members of the PGA and LPGA. His “Golf Doctor” golf tip show has run on WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, for more than 25 years.
