Aloha® Seashore Paspalum:

Aloha® was developed by the University of Florida for use on golf courses from tee-to-green and on sports fields. This luxurious grass delivers a deep green color, longer roughs on golf courses and a slightly wider leaf blade than SeaDwarf®. University tests show that Aloha®, when compared to other paspalums, has a faster grow-in rate for sod production and golf course establishment. Aloha also has a higher resistance to the green bug aphid and sod webworm than any other paspalum tested.

General Information

A hearty variety of Seashore Paspalum with a rich, luxurious color.
It has a slightly wider leaf blade than SeaDwarf® Seashore Paspalum.
It can be irrigated with low quality water. Potable, effluent, reclaimed, even seawater under the right conditions, can be used as an irrigation source.

Uses

Excellent for home and commercial lawns, it provides a deep green color and a high-end appearance.

Resilient for use on sports fields, Aloha® stands up to wear, soil compaction and poor water quality.

Aloha® provides a good-looking, environmentally friendly playing surface for highly-playable golf courses. It can be used wall-to-wall, in the rough and from tee-to-green. It tolerates a wide variety of mowing heights. It is especially suited for courses where a longer rough is desired and where overly-fast green speed is not a requirement.

Its salt tolerance makes Aloha® a good choice for dune stabilization and bioremediation.

It also works well in flow-way applications where the turf will remain wet or even submerged for periods of time.

Maintenance Characteristics

Maintenance Characteristics of Aloha® Seashore Paspalum: Though not difficult to maintain, Aloha® Seashore Paspalum has different maintenance requirements than other turfgrasses such as bermudagrass.

Takes up to 50 percent less water than bermudagrass.

Requires up to 75 percent less nitrogen than bermudagrass.

It is fairly shade tolerant, fairly cold tolerant, and can withstand prolonged wet conditions.

Highly Salt Tolerant

Aloha® Seashore Paspalum is highly salt tolerant. It can be irrigated with brackish water, gray water, effluent or water with a salt content of up to 22,000 ppm, or in some cases, higher.

Weeds can be treated with ordinary table salt. Aloha® will remain unharmed!

It is perfect for situations where quality irrigation water is not an option.

Aloha® is great for seaside applications. Salt spray over seawalls won't harm it.

Environmentally-Friendly

Aloha® Paspalum needs low fertilizer, low nitrogen and can be treated for weeds with table salt. This saves time and money and helps the environment by putting much fewer chemicals into the ecosystem.

Can be irrigated with recycled water.

Has much less nitrogen run-off than many other turfgrasses.

Other Tolerances

Stands up well in high traffic areas.

It is fairly cold tolerant. Cold weather with temperatures as low as 28 degrees seems to be no problem for Seashore Paspalum.

Works well in a variety of soils.

Can survive in wet and water-logged areas.

It is fairly shade tolerant and can grow in low-light situations such as a cloudy day.
